Hiring a Professional Painter to paint your home can be intimidating, stressful, and full of lessons learned the hard way. Afte r being in the industry for years, we've learned a thing or two about what homeowners and painters know and don't know. This is the second part of a series of posts so you can feel prepared when doing your due diligence when choosing a painter.
How does the timing work?
Painters should be transparent about when the work will start, end, and any circumstances that might affect that schedule. Make sure to also ask how any updates to the schedule will be handled.
What is your painting process?
The process will vary slightly depending on what is being painted and how the customer wants the finished product to look like. The basics don't change though.
Ask how they will prepare the area and the basics steps of your painting project. VERY important - ask how they will clean after.
Do you have employees or do you use subcontractors?
Painters often work multiple projects at a time or hire subcontractors for help. For the sake of consistency, it’s essential to verify that you can count on the same workers until completion. If they hire subcontractors, ask about their qualifications and if they’re covered by the same insurance too.
How will you keep me and my home safe?
This is a touchy yet necessary question to ask. Your Painter should be willing to take reasonable precautions to protect your belongings. This could range from using tarps to cover large furniture or removing certain items from the job site altogether. Many professional Painters will also provide you the details of how they screen their crews by using Background Checks, checking References, and also how they have systems and processes in place to ensure everyone's safety.
